CinemaNX greenlights ‘Ashes’

CinemaNX, the film financing and production venture bankrolled by the Isle of Man, has greenlit “Ashes,” toplining Ray Winstone, Jim Sturgess and Lesley Manville.

Pic, which also stars Jodie Whittaker (“Attack the Block”) and Luke Evans (“Robin Hood”), is directed by “Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll” helmer Mat Whitecross.

The project, which is budgeted under £5 million ($8 million), is being co-financed by private investor Merzbau and Brit music group Coldplay.

Fiesta Prods.’ Esther Douglas and Fiona Neilson will produce the pic, while exec producer credits will go to CinemaNX’s Steve Christian and Marc Samuelson, Merzbau’s Phillip Kier and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion.

Whitecross is reuniting with “Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll” scribe Paul Viragh to co-pen “Ashes,” a contemporary noir thriller.

Script has been developed with the assistance of Northern Film and Media, UKFC Vision and the MEDIA program.

Lensing is skedded to commence on March 21 on location around the Isle of Man.

First Trailer for “The Way Back”

A look at “The Way Back (2010)” has been made available in a form of international trailer. It features all-star cast like Ed Harris, Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan who portray a group of people trying to reach British India.

Harris plays an American man, Farrell is a tough tattooed Russian while Sturgess portrays a young Polish inmate. These three prisoners meet Ronan’s character, who is a Russian, during their way to escape a Soviet labor camp in Yakutsk. Going through cold and dry places, these people are facing the wilderness of nature.

A fact-based story, “The Way Back” also has Mark Strong among the cast ensemble. This drama is coming from Australian film director Peter Weir and will hit limited U.S. theaters on December 29 before getting wider release on January 21, 2011.

“Across the Universe” DVD Extras

The final two DVD extras from Across the Universe have finally been added to the gallery – it has also been accounced that One Day will be released in the third quarter of 2011, with production starting at the end of July, though Jim’s status on the film is still rumoured. A synopsis has also been released, with a bit more information than before:
